Green Box

Green Box is a social enterprise and NGO that provides training and facilities for recycling and waste sorting.

For Green Box, we developed an interior design concept for a community recycling-sorting facility in Lviv. Beyond its obvious ecological function, the space will also serve a social role as an Eco Hub — a venue for events and a range of lectures for residents of the district and anyone interested, acting as a center for urban community life.

The most important part of the Eco Hub, as a social center, is the lecture space. It is informally organized into several parts: a lecture zone with a stage and small audience seating, a work zone for small meetings or co-working, a children’s corner, and a cloakroom for visitors. The lecture space is designed to be as flexible as possible — when needed, all the furniture (from the audience seating and the work zone) can be easily tucked away into the cloakroom, a storage room, or a dedicated table-storage space.

Besides the lecture space, the hub includes a Green Box office-shop, a community recycling-sorting area, and a storage/production zone.

The aim throughout was to make the space aesthetic, welcoming, and easy to read for residents, which led to simple, clean solutions: white walls and ceiling or plywood paneling, polished concrete flooring, and furniture also made of plywood. Individual accents — wall posters and a classic homey rug — add warmth and a welcoming feel.
