Green Framework and Stormwater Management Concept for the Pidholosko District

The “green framework” concept for the Pidholosko district in Lviv is a project for creating a connected network of green spaces alongside an ecological system for stormwater management. The project’s goal is to provide an inclusive environment for recreation and reduce the load on the city’s sewage system. It includes recommendations for landscape and recreational spaces — such as parks, public gardens, and drainage ponds — that support sustainable water management and help maintain the district’s ecological balance.

Typology of Green Zones

The typology of green zones in the Pidholosko district includes urban parks, forest parks, drainage parks (wetlands), public gardens, squares, pedestrian streets, and semi-private green spaces. Their characteristics, functions, and key organizing principles are described, with particular attention to natural stormwater retention and the preservation of the natural landscape to create a comfortable urban environment.

Stormwater Management

Principles for stormwater management in the Pidholosko district. The main goal is to reduce the load on the city’s sewage system by maximizing the retention, accumulation, and filtration of rainwater on site. Green areas, drainage planters, and swales are used to support natural drainage, while any remaining water volume is directed to drainage ponds or the city sewage system.
